-Be A Part of Art- HOMESITE Clothing Exchange declared a great public participatory event - Join us at DTLA Artwalk

a Public Participatory Art Project by Joyce Dallal and Lauren M. Kasmer

-Be A Part of Art- HOMESITE Clothing Exchange declared a great public participatory event - Join us at DTLA Artwalk

The 1st HOMESITE CLOTHING EXCHANGE ( held during the Brewery Fall Artwalk October 24-25 ) was a winner. Some came prepared but many of the participants just took off something they were wearing, then told the story of that article of clothing ( perhaps something they no longer wanted, outgrew, never liked, had a desire to exchange or just wanted to have immortalized ) and then exchanged for another item donated by participants or by local businesses like the MODAC Museum of Fashion Designers and Creators and American Apparel. "Exchanges" were documented and now become pat of the HOMESITE Art Project, which will be seen in its' entire form, including all the new and ongoing public participatory projects, at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall in January 2010. Become a fan. Join us for the next exchanges (the HOMESITE RECIPE EXCHANGE online will be here very soon) and exhibitions.

BE A PART OF ART NOVEMBER 12 - Participate in the 2nd HOMESITE CLOTHING EXCHANGE

The 2nd HOMESITE CLOTHING EXCHANGE will be held as a "Happening" on Thursday November 12th during the monthly Downtown Los Angeles ArtWalk. Our host location is the offices of the MODAC Museum of Fashion Designers and Creators on 850 South Broadway, third floor, from 5 PM until 9 PM.

HOMESITE (pronounced Home-site or Home-City), is the multifaceted interdisciplinary art installation conceived of in 1990 by artists Joyce Dallal and Lauren M. Kasmer investigating the city of Los Angeles, it’s history and environment, as home. The public’s participation has always played a key role in their art project. After the artists received a City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department grant, The HOMESITE Art installation made its’ debut at the Westside Pavilion in July 1992, in one of malls’ non-occupied retail storefront windows. It then continued to be displayed, ever growing and changing, in primarily non traditional spaces, countywide, spanning San Pedro to Woodland Hills, until it was last exhibited at the Japanese-American Museum in 1998.

In anticipation of HOMESITE’s 20th anniversary and the inclusion of the historical artwork in the “Actions, Conversations, and Intersections” exhibition, at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall in January 2010, two new public participatory projects will expand the art installation.
